Lynn Gilbert McKinlay, 76, of Iona, passed away peacefully December 19, 2017, at his home.



Lynn was born December 15, 1941, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Gilbert T. McKinlay and Emma Eleanor Nielsen McKinlay. He grew up and attended schools in Hibbard and graduated from Madison High School. He graduated from Ricks College and Utah State University with his Bachelor’s Degree. He later attended the University of Idaho where he earned a Master’s Degree in education.



On December 27, 1968, he married Betty Mae Klingler in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union were born four children, Trisha, Brian, Jeffery, and Mandy. Lynn and Betty made their home in Iona, Idaho. Lynn worked as a teacher at Dora Erickson and Fairview Elementary Schools. He was Principal at Kinghorn Elementary School and Midway Middle School. He retired after teaching at Jefferson Middle School.



He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served two missions at the Idaho Falls Family History Center. He served as Executive Secretary and Scout Master. He enjoyed Scouting and was an Eagle Scout. Lynn was awarded the Silver Beaver. He was a member of the ski patrol at Kelly Canyon and Grand Targhee. He was a member the Southeast Idaho Practical Shooters, Skyline Gun Club, Corvettes of Southeast Idaho and enjoyed archery.



Lynn is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Betty McKinlay of Iona, ID; daughter, Trisha (Dave) Thomas of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Brian (Rohni) McKinlay of Elizabeth City, NC; son, Jeffery (Melinda Gregston) McKinlay of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Mandy (Nathan) Williams of Nashville, TN; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents and his parents-in-law, Arden and Pearl Klingler.



Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 23, 2017, at the Iona LDS 2nd Ward, 7555 North 55 East, with Bishop Casey Faulkner officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Iona Cemetery.
