Born July 9, 1975, in Scranton, she was the daughter of William Jr. and Susan O'Hara Calpin, Scranton. Megan was a 1993 graduate of Scranton Preparatory School. She attended Rosemont College in Philadelphia, and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in interior design from Marywood University.
Megan was owner of Keen Bean Design LLC, and recipient of Top 25 Women in Business 2011, Northeast Woman, Top 20 under 40 Dec. 2008, and Kiss My Style Women of Merit 2010 from the University of Scranton.
Surviving in addition to her husband and parents are her children, Hannah Elizabeth Hughes and Harrison Rhys Hughes; her sister, Maggie C. Calpin, Scranton; her paternal grandfather, William J. Calpin Sr., of Scranton; her mother-in-law, Barbara Hughes, of Clarks Summit; and her sister-in-law, Ellen Hughes Marotta and husband, Victor, of Avondale Estates, Ga.; aunts, uncles, cousins; and her nephew, Samuel A. Marotta.
Megan was preceded in death by her sister, Molly Calpin, in 1994; her maternal grandparents, John and Elsie O'Hara; her paternal grandmother, Catherine Poplar; her uncles, Timothy Calpin and Sean Calpin; father-in-law, Robert E. Hughes Jr.; and beloved aunt, Hannah Jones.
A special thank you to Dr. Lisa Thomas, Dr. Megan Haggerty and the nurses and staff of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the extraordinary care given to Megan during her illness.
The Liturgy of the Word will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment will be conducted at Clarks Green Cemetery.
