Diane Shipps Barnett, 83, passed away Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, in Southlake. Funeral 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet. Diane Shipps was born in Arkoe, Mo., to Seth and Fern Shipps on June 20, 1934. She grew up in Cheyenne, Wyo., but finished high school in Fort Worth. Her parents; brother, David; and sister, Sharron, moved to Texas after the blizzard of '49. She married Hulen Barnett in 1952 in Fort Worth, and they were married for 61 years. Her joy was bringing fun and comfort to those she loved. Diane was a lifelong reader and learner, which led to many creative ideas and parties to keep her family close. Her favorite was the annual Shipps Christmas Stockin' parties. She taught herself to bake and decorate wedding cakes, make homemade wine, and she and Hulen built their own airplane. She was a pilot and member of the women's pilot organization, The Ninety Nine's. She and Hulen were members of the flying and travel clubs at their home in Hilltop Lakes, Texas. Diane was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and older brother, David Shipps. Survivors: Daughter, Loretta and husband, Perry, of Grapevine; son, Danny and wife, Marty, of Orange Grove; sister, Sharron; grandchildren, Wendy, Daylon and Colin; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
