Helen Jewel Newton, age 81, of Greeneville, died Monday morning, December 18, 2017 at Laughlin Healthcare Center.
She was retired from the USDA and attended Hill Street Church of God as long as her health permitted.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years: Clyde Newton; one daughter: Nancy McBee; son-in-law: Jerry McBee; brother and sister-in-law: Billy Ray and Gladys Holt; several nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ida and JD Swatzell, Lena and Frank Newton, Sr., Blaine Scott, and Judy Holt Broyles; special friend: Myra Jones.
Helen loved animals, especially her fur baby, Daisy Maple and her favorite horse, Dillon.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Crawford A. and Elizabeth Newton; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Crawford A. and Marlene Holt, Jr., and Rev. Glenn Holt; two sisters: Marilyn Scott and Vivian Rader; one nephew: Shane Harrison.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm Wednesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 o'clock Wednesday evening in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Lynn Mercer will officiate. Interment will take place in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 21st. Active pallbearers will be Mike Ferguson, Doug Jones, Keith Stokes, Scott Fawbush, David Ferguson, and Wes Newton. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Newton and J.L. Newton.
