Kenneth J. Jones, age 88, of West Frankfort, Illinois, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2017. He was the son of Kenneth C. and Sarah E (Morgan) Jones.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War from October 12, 1948 to October 11, 1952.
Kenneth joined the Illinois State Police July 15, 1957. He began his tenure as a trooper on patrol with District 13. Kenneth retired July 31, 1987 at the rank of Master Sergeant with 30 years of service. He also is a retired U.S. Marshall and Court Security Officer.
During his law enforcement career, he served as a firearm’s instructor, a Riot Squad Leader and he was an expert marksman on the competitive shooting team for the Illinois State Police
Kenneth was a deacon and former song leader at Calvary Baptist Church, West Frankfort and a member of the Messengers Quartet.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jones of West Frankfort. They were married October 7, 1949. Also surviving are his sons, Kenneth Roy (Patricia) Jones of Mulkeytown, Michael (Tracy) Jones of West Frankfort, Steven (Kathy) Jones of Greenville, South Carolina, Richard (Angie) Jones of Herrin; his daughters, Connie (Kenneth) Sloan of West Frankfort and Trudy (William) Manis of Girard; 28 grandchildren, Stefeny (David) Grear, John (Kelly) Jones, Bart Sloan, Neil (Lacey) Sloan, Jeff (Lynell) Willis, Clint (Andi) Willis, Matt Manis, Molly (Jason) Young, Misty (Clayton) Williams, Michael Jones, Nicole (Kris) Wallingsford, Becky (Basil) Killion, Sarah (Nick) McKinney, Will Jones, Austin (Tanisha) Jones, Ethan Jones, Chelsy Jones, 27 great grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Bauersachs of Pinckneyville.
