Clifton Lee “Swabby” Carpenter was born on May 29, 1948, in Ventura County, California to Clifton and Virginia (Hambelton) Carpenter. He passed away December 16, 2017. Cliff attended Port Hueneme High School in Port Hueneme, California, and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Weston on March 25, 1966, in Oxnard, California. Born of this blessed union were three children, Donald Lee on May 1, 1967, Daniel Gene on November 18, 1968, and Debra Joann on June 17, 1970. Cliff was a long-time employee of both the Nebraska Department of Corrections and the City of Lincoln.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Lincoln; his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Diana (Gade) Carpenter of Lincoln; his son, and daughter-in-law, Dan and Brenda of Alexandria, Virginia; his daughter Deb of Lincoln; grandchildren, Josh Leiting of Beaver Crossing, Nick and Hallie (Clark) Carpenter of Valparaiso, Jordan and Allison (Porter) Carpenter of Lincoln, Noah and Cooper Carpenter of Lubbock, Texas, along with great-grandson, Wyatt Willard Lee Carpenter of Valparaiso; a sister, Carol Jean; brothers and sisters-in-law, along with many nieces and nephews. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Virginia, and his parents-in-law, Wally and Jo Weston.
Services will be held graveside at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend, and should gather at gate 2 approximately 30 minutes prior.
