Mrs. George was born on September 13, 1924, in Monroe, LA, and passed away on December 16, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. George was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church serving the Lord as a Sunday School teacher and on the Session as Deacon. She was a graduate of Neville High School and received her BA degree in Education from Northeast Louisiana State College followed with a Master’s degree in Education from Northeast Louisiana University. She was blessed with the God-given talent of teaching which led her, heart and soul, into the classroom both at school and at church. Her love of children and desire to serve the Lord, Mrs. George devoted 26 years to teaching 4th graders at Barkdull Faulk Elementary School and countless years teaching young people in Sunday School. She touched the lives of many children who through the years continue to cherish the memory of her love and Christian example of kindness and patient understanding both inside and outside of the classroom, always willing and eager to go that extra mile to ensure their success. Upon retirement, her principal wrote a personal note praising her as “…the most capable teacher I’ve known – you give to students the feeling that they cannot fail and then support them so that they won’t…”

In addition to church being the foundation of her and Mr. George’s life together raising their family of four children, Mrs. George fulfilled the calling to give back to the community in which she was born and lived her entire life. She was a member of the Junior League of Monroe (active and sustainer status), D.A.R. Fort Miro Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, P.E.O., Monroe Garden Club, North Monroe Hospital Auxiliary, an avid participant and leader of Bible Study Fellowship, and many (active and retirement) local, state and national teacher organizations.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert Lafayette George, Jr.; her parents, Reginald and Irma Grant Ensminger; and two brothers, William “Billy” Ensminger and Arthur David Ensminger.

She is survived by her son, Robert L. George, III and wife Jean; three daughters: Brenda G. LaRose and husband Walter, Deborah G. Gaines and husband Jack, and Rebecca Ann George; 9 grandchildren: Robert L. George, IV and wife Donna, Ryan A. George and wife Honey, Walter L. LaRose, Jr. and wife Liz, Wendy L. Juneau, Braden G. LaRose and wife Natalie, Amanda Frost, Andrea Greer, Breaux Greer, and Morgan G. Decelle; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, John Ensminger and wife Gladybelle; one sister, Emily Ensminger Burrows and husband Gaylord; numerous nieces and nephews and their families she loved dearly.

Pallbearers will be Grandsons: Morgan G. Decelle, Robert L. George, IV, Ryan A. George, Walter L. LaRose Jr, Braden G. LaRose; Great-Grandsons: Aaron George, Adam George, and Gage Jones.
