Emily Richardson Pope Fryer was born in 1824 in Franklin County, Missouri, a daughter of Richard Richardson and Jincy Brock who were married in Franklin County, Missouri. Emily had only one known full sibling but several half-siblings through her father's second marriage. Emily was first married to Thomas Pope in 1848 in Gasconade County, Missouri. They had at least two children, Richard Martin Pope and Leona Pope. Following Thomas Pope's death, Emily married William Fryer about 1863, probably in Gasconade County,Missouri, although the marriage is not recorded there. Emily and William had two known children. They were Lucretia Alice Fryer (1864-1940) and Elizabeth Paralee Fryer (1865-1950). Lucretia Alice went by her middle name and was married to John Wamac Soward in 1887 in Marion County, Arkansas. Elizabeth Paralee also went by her middle name and married William "Bill" Buffalo who was a first cousin of her sister's husband, John W. Soward. When she was elderly, Emily went to live with the Soward family and was with them when she died on 3 October 1907 in Curry County, New Mexico Territory. She was buried in a country cemetery between Clovis and Texico, New Mexico. Her grave is unmarked and the exact location of the cemetery is not known.
