He was a member of the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, was a former deputy U.S. Sky Marshal and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a First Sergeant in the United States Army, serving in Vietnam. He retired after 23 years of service. His military career moved him and his family many places but Kentucky was his home.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice L. Stanfield Cox of Fulton,KY, a daughter Kathryn M. Weigle of Hermitage, TN, two sons Kenneth D. Cox of Wingo,KY and Phillip H. Cox, Jr. of St. Clair Shore, MI; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents Walter H. and Mary Jane Osborne Cox, four brothers and three sisters.
