Her paternal grandparents were Elisha Evans Estes and Sarah Caroline McCarty Estes . Her maternal grandparents were John Houston Shumpert and Rothsura Dora McKinney Shumpert . Mae Estes married George Washington Ruth on April 12 , 1940 ( Itawamba County , Mississippi Marriage Records ) . W. R. Roper was the minister who officiated . Mae and George Ruth had two children , George and Brenda Ruth who both were born in Lee county, Mississippi . Later the family moved to Illinois and lived there many years . Mae Ruth was employed by Abbott Laboratories . Following retirement Mae and George returned to their native state Mississippi to live . Mae Estes Ruth was a woman of great faith who loved the Lord and loved others unselfishly . She was devoted to her family and enjoyed many friendships .
