Sue Ellen (Sheibley) Adams, age 58, of Mechanicsburg, who bravely faced and tirelessly fought cancer for over five years quietly slipped away while being comforted by her loving family on Thursday, December 14, 2017. Sue was born on Tuesday, December 23, 1958 in Carlisle. Sue is preceded in death by her step-father, Donald “Bean” Beam, her parents-in-law, Geraldine “Gerry” and Wilbert “Shorty” Adams, and her precious canine companion, Cassie, who crossed the rainbow bridge only days before Sue’s death and who joyfully greeted Sue on the other side.
Sue’s survivors include her loving husband of 29 years, Everett “Ted” Lee Adams; her mother, Eleanora Beam; her father, Reynold Sheibley and his wife, Edie; her siblings: Jo Mentzer and her husband, Phil, Don Sheibley and his wife, Ginger, Lori Clelan and her husband, Scott; her brother-in-law, Terry Adams and his wife, Joan; her nieces and nephews: Heather Van Hoy, Troy Adams, Julia Yarlett, Heather Mentzer, Lydia Clelan, Ian Clelan, Max Clelan; and her beloved great nieces and nephews: Drew Van Hoy, Jayden Yarlett, Kenzie Yarlett, and Griffin Clelan.
Sue graduated from Cumberland Valley High School as part of the class of 1976. She was an active and long-time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Kingstown where she served for many years as the treasurer and played in the bell choir. Sue was employed by the Susquehanna Conference of United Methodist Churches and serving in several financial positions. Sue served for over 15 years as secretary/treasurer of Silver Spring Township and in the financial offices of both Capital Blue Cross and Cumberland Truck Equipment Co. She found joy in working with numbers and always gave 110% to her work. This commitment to both hard work and service to others found a natural home in Sue’s volunteerism in the New Kingstown Fire Company where, not surprisingly, she served as treasurer and as the “official” sticky bun maker for their famous community breakfasts. Even through her illness, Sue remained committed to service, volunteering to help find a cure for cancer as a white cell immunotherapy patient in a National Institute of Health Clinical Trial. Her most powerful medicine, however, and the medicine that she most treasured was the “kid therapy” she received from her great nieces and nephews.
Sue loved animals, flowers and the color purple. She was generous, caring and a planner. “Little Planner Person” was a loving nickname that was well earned by Sue’s constant efforts to organize people. Family was tremendously important to Sue and she went to heroic measures to protect her family from anything and everything unpleasant. She will always be remembered, especially at family gatherings, for her tapioca.
