Virginia Ruth Gillespie was born July 16, 1918, to Ferdinand and Daisy (Addington) Ziemann on the original homestead near Western. She married Jason A. Gillespie on June 5, 1965. They farmed near Tobias for 25 years then moved to Lincoln in 1990 to spend their retirement years. She entered her eternal glory on December 14, 2017.
Virginia accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior on May 5, 1929. She was in the U.S Cadet Nurses Corps as part of the home front mobilization for World War II. She earned her RN degree from Mercy Hospital in Denver near the end of the war and practiced nursing for 21 years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary #311 and the Havelock Rebekah Lodge #150. She was prominent in several women's organizations and taught many Sunday school and Bible studies into her 90's. She was very proud to be a great-great-great aunt.
She leaves to mourn her passing nieces and nephews, Charles (Marilyn) Muir, Mary Howsden all of Lincoln, Rolland Muir of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Marlys (Gene) Babcock of South Rockwood, Michigan, as well as many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jason Gillespie; one sister, Olive Muir; and nieces and nephews Vivian (Ruben) Haun, Wendel Howsden, and Leanna Muir.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p..m., Monday December 18, at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday December 19, at Temple Baptist Church, 4940 Randolph St., with interment to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Temple Baptist Church or Cedars Home for Children. Online condolences can be left at www.bmlfh.com.
