Elmer Eugene Long, age 74, of Morehead, passed away Friday, December 15, 2017, at his residence.

Born August 26, 1943, in Acme, WV, he was the son of the late Vinson and Golda Lewis Long. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wilburn Ray Long.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Lavonda Warren Long; one son, Darrell Eugene Long and wife Dora; one brother, Gary Long and wife Bonnie; and one sister, Madalene Ritchie and husband Kenneth, all of Morehead; nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

Elmer served three years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and retired after 40 years of service with GTE, Alltel, Verizon and Windstream.

Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Ditney Cemetery with Brother Larry Hamm officiating. Full military honors will be presented by Morehead American Legion Post 126. Legion members will also serve as pallbearers.

At Elmer’s request, there is no visitation.
