ELKHART-On December 16th, 2017, Ethel Jane Lawrence, 84, of Elkhart, was called home to heaven. Ethel was born on March 3rd, 1933 in Thompsonville, Michigan to Harold and Olive Scott. She attended Bethel College where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She later received her Master's Degree from Notre Dame. She was a gifted teacher and storyteller and greatly enjoyed her students. On June 25th, 1966 she married Wilford Lawrence who passed away December 2015. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Pettifor and a son, Bill Lawrence; ten grandchildren, Thomas (Jodi) Pettifor, Andrew Pettifor, Kristen Pettifor, Samuel Lawrence, Alex Lawrence, Amelia Lawrence, Savannah Lawrence, Janelle Pettifor, Nathan Pettifor, and McKenna Pettifor; and five great-grandchildren. Ethel came from a family of twelve siblings and of those she is survived by a sister, Ardith Hazel and a brother Lavern (Vada) Scott. Ethel was a member of Bethany Missionary Church where she served faithfully for over fifty years. Ethel was responsible for the decorating of countless events. Anyone who knew her would attest to her outgoing nature and extremely generous spirit. She frequently said God had given her the "gift of giving" and she used that gift well. Ethel enjoyed reading, singing, collecting antiques, watching Wheel of Fortune and spending time with family and friends. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 27th, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Bethany Missionary Church 56295 Co. Rd. 1 Elkhart, IN 46516 with Reverend Mike Peters officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Missionary Church. Elkhart Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements.
