Mr. Hood, a ninth generation descendent of Roger Williams, leaves his loving and caring wife of 72 years, Virginia Durfee Hood, of Somerset, Massachusetts, a son Roger Williams Hood, Jr. (Mary Grace) of Matunuck, RI and Tavernier, FL.
In addition, Mr. Hood is survived by his grandchildren, Andrew Preston Hood, Jeremy Williams Hood, Heather Elizabeth Bonin (Luke), Meghan Marie Chuk (Samme), Nathan Aaron Hood (Leah), and Kerry Elizabeth Hood, and several great grandchildren. He was also father of the late Lloyd Preston Hood.
Mr. Hood graduated from M.I.T. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, in 1942, and was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy at Midshipman's School at Notre Dame. He served over eight years in the Navy during WWII and ultimately as a Lieutenant at the Bethlehem Shipyard, in Quincy, Massachusetts, during the Korea conflict.
After serving his country, Mr. Hood worked in engineering for Texas Instruments, in Attleboro, and as Director of Engineering at Hersey Products, in Dedham.
Active in boating all his life, Mr. Hood taught navigation and sailing for many years as a member of the Attleboro Power Squadron.
His funeral will be held in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset, MA with burial to follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, N. Attleboro MA.
