Mr. Ayers was born March 12, 1915 in Athens, Georgia to William Lester and Paula Burroughs Ayers. He moved to Palm Beach County with his family in 1925. He died February 27, 2013 at the age of 97 years, 11 months. He enjoyed a successful career in sales. Crawford was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army Signal Corps. He retired from the US Army Reserve as Chief Warrant Officer in 1959. He was a descendent of Captain Thomas Graves, who on July 30, 1619 helped form the first government for the British Colonies in Jamestown, Va. He was married to Dorothy Shackelford Ayers, who preceded him in death. He is survived by a daughter, Dee Blount (Nick) of Stuart; a son, Crawford Daniel Ayers, Jr. (Debbie) of West Palm Beach; stepson, William Cox (Brenda) from Montgomery, Alabama; grandchildren, Amanda Blount, Zack Ayers, Laurie Griffin and Susan Worley. He also is survived by one sister, Martha Holtslaw, North Palm Beach; sisters-in-law, Margie Ayers, North Palm Beach, and Helon Ayers, Tallahassee, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by sisters, Catherine Vignoli, Anita Ayers; brothers, Audine, Kenneth and Donald Ayers, and grandson, Scott Ayers. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jupiter-Tequesta. A memorial service will be held Saturday March 2 at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 717 Prosperity Farms Rd, North Palm Beach, FL with Rev. Walter Arnold and Dr. John E. Griswold officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Ayers can be given to Hospice Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407 or First United Methodist Church, Jupiter-Tequesta, 815 E Indiantown Rd, Jupiter, FL 33477.
