Donald J. Fitzgerald, 88, passed away on Friday. Don was born on January 26, 1929 in Syracuse, NY to the late Jim and Blanche Fitzgerald. He attended Ed Thomkins Porter and Vocational High School. Don was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served 29 months in Japan. After his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for A.H. Pond Wholesale Jewelry, where he met his wife, Rose Dantono. They were married for 53 years until Rose passed away in 2009. Don also worked for Nabisco as a sales rep for 12 years, Wine Merchants as a sales rep manager for 12 years and Nette Beverages as a sales manager and general manger for 14 years. Don is survived by many nieces and nephews and was often heard saying " I never would have lived to be an old geezer if it hadn't been for them taking care of me in my old age." Calling hours will be Monday 5-7pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday 10am at the funeral home with burial to follow in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
