Mr. Walters was born March 6, 1933, in Robeson County, to the late Archie A. and Dora Prevatte Walters. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Archie; and four sisters, Evelyn, Gladys, Vera and Eva.
Mr. Walters served in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Burlington Industries and Cambridge Arms Apartments before he retired. In his spare time he loved gardening, trying to beat the largest peanut world record. He also loved bowling, and fishing.
Mr. Walters was a charter member of Community United Methodist Church, which he helped build, and served as treasurer for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Walters; a son, Harry Walters Jr. and his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Melody Causey and her husband, Jimmie; four grandchildren, Matt, Mallory, Skylar and Savannah; two sisters, Jimmie Fulk and her husband, Waylon, and O’Lee Bowen and her husband, Everette. He is also survived by his boxer Brody.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at the Community United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Simpson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after the service in the church fellowship hall.
