Mrs. Anita Tanner West, age 94, of Miamola Avenue in Sandersville, died Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Washington County Extended Care Facility.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 17th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Sandersville with burial in Brownwood Cemetery. Reverend Lee Lacey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tripp West, Parker Kitchens, Robert Hortman, Matt Grossman, William Fawcett, Jay Tanner, Billy Garner and Cliff Sheppard.
Mrs. West was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Mell Jordan Tanner and the late Mae Young Tanner.
She was a homemaker and formerly taught school in Porterdale and Sandersville. Mrs. West was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Sandersville where she was active with the WMU and formerly taught Sunday School to the Youth and Ladies classes. She was a member of the Jared Irwin Chapter of the D.A.R., the Sorosis Club and the Spade and Trowel Garden Club. Mrs. West possessed a great love of gardening at her home growing roses and irises.
She is predeceased by her husband, Lewis Marcus West Sr.
Survivors are; her sons, Lewis M. West Jr. and his wife Barbara and Robert S. West and his wife Connie all of Sandersville; grandchildren, Nancy W. Hortman and her husband Robert of Rome, Lewis M. West III and his wife Blakely of Athens, Laura W. Kitchens and her husband Parker and Holly W. Grossman and her husband Matt all of St. Simons Island; great grandchildren, West Hortman, Wills Hortman, Jack Kitchens, Samantha Grossman and Lucy Anne Kitchens; and her sister, Jessie T. Fawcett of Savannah.
The family will be at the home of Mark and Barbara West on Laurel Drive in Sandersville and they will receive friends on Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at May and Smith Funeral Home.
Donations may be made to Washington County Historical Society for the maintenance of the Brown House grounds, P.O. Box 6088, Sandersville, GA. 31082 and or to First Baptist Church of Sandersville, 316 Mathis Circle, Sandersville, GA. 31082.
