As her family prayed, sang and read her favorite passages from the precious Word of God, Carolyn Adcox Greer, graduated from the shackles of Alzheimer's Disease into the loving arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 14, 2017.

Carolyn was born June 19, 1945, to Richmond Otis and Florence Bishop Adcox in Doddsville, MS. From the outset, she enjoyed her rural upbringing with four brothers and two sisters giving her company. Sharing this many siblings resulted in Carolyn developing a "tomboy" personality while also becoming an academically and athletically well-rounded student.

Her father worked in the agricultural business and relocated the family frequently from one geographic location to another in Mississippi. As a small child, Carolyn's family lived in Magee, Florence and later, Byram. During this time, she developed her skills as a basketball player and was awarded a high school letter in the sport.

During her sophomore year of high school, Carolyn began attendance at Central High School in downtown Jackson. Carolyn flourished in several of her literary classes at Central as she benefitted from outstanding instruction.

Upon graduation from Central, Carolyn entered the workforce in 1963 at the University Medical Center. She enrolled in night college classes at Millsaps College and Belhaven College, respectively, while working at the Medical Center.

In October 1965, Carolyn began employment at South Central Bell Telephone Company. This would prove to be a significant event, because it was at the "Telephone Company" that Carolyn met and later married, Larry Greer, on August 18, 1973. Carolyn was promoted to management in 1978 and rapidly progressed through the Company's Human Resources organization. Upon her retirement from BellSouth in 1991, she was manager for Equal Employment Opportunity Compliance in the nine BellSouth states.

Carolyn was an active member of First Baptist Madison and she relished her involvement in the Praying Hearts' ministry at First Madison. She was a guiding force behind the development of her two sons, Jeffrey and Brian, into fine Christian men.

In her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening, homemaking and involvement in her sons' school and community activities. She frequently served as a chaperone on band trips during her sons' enrollment in the Madison Central Band program.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, James Larry Greer, son, Jeffrey Lawrence Greer of Ridgeland, MS and son, James Brian Greer (Carra) of Lilburn, GA, and four grandchildren: Lola Olivia Greer, Jude Harrison Greer, Simon Beckett Greer and Myles Taylor Greer. She is also survived by her brother, Richard Adcox (Eleanor), Clinton, MS, and her sister Lynda Martin (Frank), McComb, MS, two sister-in-laws, Dorothy Anne Adcox, Brandon, MS and Martha Adcox, Forest, MS; a brother-in-law, Robert Dale Greer (Jane), Wilmington, NC and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Rudolph, John and Jesse Adcox and a sister, Mecie Bennett.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, December 17, from 2-4 pm at Parkway Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. Funeral services will be held at Parkway Funeral Home on Monday, December 18, at 11 am with visitation prior to the service from 10-11 am. Burial will be 2:00pm in Wesson Cemetery.
