Faye Mounger, 87, of McKinney, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in Princeton, Texas. She was born on February 26, 1930 in the Branch Community of Collin County, the daughter of Louie Hankey and Annie Stephens Hankey. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Northwest Christian Church, 1513 N. Bradley St., McKinney, TX 75069, with Dr. Bill Rosnett, officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park in Allen, TX. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM also at Northwest Christian Church.
Being born and raised in the Branch Community and coming from a large family, she learned her work ethic from a young age. Having 11 siblings she also learned how to cook for a large family. She had the blessing of being a fabulous cook her entire life. Even if it was just you and her eating, she never could cook just for two, there was always a feast to be had. She met and married Earl T. Mounger at an early age and they were married for more than 50 years. Several years after his passing, she found love again and was married to Earl Harvell, who also passed away. Faye knew the Lord from an early age and was a faithful member to the churches she attended. Most currently, she was a member of the Northwest Christian Church in McKinney. Imitating Christ, she had a kind, servants’ heart, and in this quality, she served her church when and where she was needed, and was always available to her church family whenever there was a need. Family was very important to her, as she always visited when she could, and she cherished all the gatherings, dinners, reunions and holidays. She was very interested in her family history and took this passion to the point where she and her sister researched for years and traveled many places to complete a book on the Hankey family genealogy.
Her work career began in the offices of several Doctors’, but later in life discovered a passion for Education. She began her education to become a teacher at Sam Houston State University and then transferring to Texas Woman’s University in Denton, where she eventually earned her Masters Degree. She taught, shaped and molded many young minds working in the Westminster ISD, Van Alstyne ISD and McKinney ISD, eventually retiring after many years of service.
Faye is survived by her three sons: Travis G. Mounger and his wife Ella Mae of McKinney, Texas, Darrell G. Mounger and his wife LeAnn of McKinney, Texas and Stephen E. Mounger and his wife Diane of Houston; by 4 grandchildren: Glenna Philbrick and her husband Robert of Martinsville, Texas, Danny G. Mounger and his wife Shannon of Nacogdoches, Texas, Chris Littlejohn and his wife Abby of Friendswood, Texas and Capt. Darrell G. Mounger, II, USMC and his wife Rana of New Orleans, LA.; 10 great grandchildren; brother: Roy E. “Bud” Hankey of Levelland, Texas; sisters: Geneva Rudolph of Longview, Texas and Darlene Williamson and her husband James of Arkansas. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. Faye was preceded in death by her parents: Louie and Annie Hankey, her husbands: Earl T. Mounger and Earl Harvell; brothers: Jack Hankey, Truman Hankey, Haskell Hankey, John D. Hankey, Virgil Hankey, Frank Hankey and Arvie Hankey; and by her sister, Venetia Hope.
