Dr. George M. Workman, 94, of Hermann, MO, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Frene Valley of Hermann Stonebridge.

George was born in Pershing, Missouri on August 1, 1923, a son of the late Dr. Howard & Lottie (Wood) Workman.

George was the husband of Julia (Wohlt) Workman. They were united in marriage on June 12, 1948 at the Hermann United Methodist Church.

George attended the Kemper Military Academy then joined the Army as a medic. He served in the Army from 1943-1946. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. After his military service he attended medical school at St. Louis University. He did a three year rotating internship there. He then went home to Hermann and worked with his father Dr. Howard Workman to help with his medical practice, where he stayed the next 51 years doing what he loved, taking care of people. He touched many lives in Hermann throughout his career.

George was an avid golfer and he adored nature & faithfully followed his wife in the outdoors. He played many years in the city band, the Hungry Five and the Apostle Band. He participated in the Rotunda Show during the Maifest each year. He was a member of the Hermann United Methodist Church and the Hermann Lions Club.

George is survived by his loving wife Julia Workman, of the home; by a daughter Barbara Wyland & her husband Greg; son Dean Workman; daughter Miranda Hartman & her husband Gary; daughter Jenifer Van Booven; and daughter Sarah Worley & her husband Sam; a sister Marylin Shaw Smith; by his grandchildren, Craig Hartman & wife Laura; Chad Hartman & wife Jill; Kirsten Parr & husband Jason; Curtis Hartman & wife Stephanie; Nathan Hartman & wife Alana; Erin Adams & husband Josh; Beth Epple & husband Brian; Drew Workman & wife Chelsea; and Haily Van Booven. He was also blessed with 22 great grandchildren, Madeline, Olivia, Will, Aislinn, Danielle, Kyra, Baylie, Savanah, Brennan, Marissa, Emmett, Augustus, Maggie, Charlie, Henry, Reed, Peter, Hattie, Georgia, Carter, Hannah & Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents, by a sister Leta, and a sister , Lorene, in infancy.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 16th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, where funeral services will follow at 4:00 p.m., with Rev. Beth Duckworth officiating.

Memorials may be given to Hermann Hospital or Hermann U.M.C. C/O Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
