Mrs. Mary G. Barkley, 85, departed this life on Thursday, December 7th at her residence following declining health conditions.
She was the daughter of Greene and Sadie F. Hamilton. She was born July 2, 1932. Mary was employed for 43 years at the home of Wylee and Mary Jane Milligan helping raise their 3 beautiful girls, Ellen, Betsey and Jaynie Milligan. She was a faithful member of Pruitt Hill United Church for many years, and served willingly in many areas of church service. She loved her church and church family.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by husband, George Barkley, Jr.; 6 sisters, Velma Williams, Maggie and Louise Bowers, Blanche Hamilton, Minnie Barner and Edith Campbell; 7 brothers, David, Sam, Herlen, Jimmy, Leon (Buck), Henry, and Rev. Rollins Hamilton; 2 nephews, Freddie and Alvin Bowers.
Those who remain, to cherish her memory are a brother in law, Thomas (Hattie) Barkley, of Mosheim, TN; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins; 2 godsons, Brian Manuel and Carlos Arnett, of Greeneville; many great friends.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 11am-12pm at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service Downtown. The home going service will follow visitation at 12pm in the funeral home chapel, with Pastors, Rochelle Maxwell, Elder William Pace, and Rev. C.C. Mills, Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery.
