He grew up in Harper, Washington where he developed his lifelong love of boating and the water.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School, In Port Orchard, Washington in 1955.
On 9 August 1958 he married the former Donna Faye Robinson, in Port Orchard, Washington. They raised their four children in the Port Orchard area.
He was an active member of the Port Orchard Yacht Club for many years.
His parents preceded him in death as did his brother, Marian.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna and his four children, Rick (Monica), Ron (Susan), Jerilyn (Tom) and Janis (Steve). He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer (Scott), Christopher (Baylee), Heather (Shane), Ryan, Jeremy, Crysta, Jaime, Jacob (Kayla), Nicholas (Kaitlyn) and Cory , 9 great-grandchildren and 16 nieces and nephews.
