David was the owner of a tree trimming and stump grinding business. He enjoyed coon hunting and stock car racing, but his greatest joy in life was his granddaughters, Paelyn and Haevyn. He spent many evenings being pampered and polished while getting his hair styled. He also enjoyed watching Paelyn play basketball and playing hide and seek with Haevyn. He was the best at giving lawn mower rides to the girls, and they would often argue over who got to sit on his lap. He was a member of the Destiny Church in Marionville, Missouri.
On April 27, 1974, he married Connie Sue Wolfe in Aurora and she survives. Also surviving are one son, D. J. Gilmore and his wife, Ashley, of Republic, Missouri; two granddaughters, Paelyn and Haevyn Gilmore; two brothers, Joe (Doris) Gilmore and John (Anissa) Gilmore; nine sisters: Bernadean Lloyd, Diane (Ward) Schaeffer, Joyce (Darrell) Williams, Della Faye Gilmore, Donna (Robert) Jung, Mary (Joe) Ellingsworth, Georgia (Danny) Talbert, Becky (Jerry) Couch, and Dorothy (Rick) McGlothlin and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, David and Thelma, and two sisters preceded him in death.
A funeral service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral home in Aurora will be held on Friday, December 15, 2017 at Destiny Church in Marionville, Missouri. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Destiny Church in honor of David Gilmore/Perfect Gift Campaign at www.destinychurch.me/giving.
