Guy Bruce, 72, of Whitney, passed away December 13, 2017 in Waco. He was born August 7, 1945 in Hillsboro to Guy Russell and Edith Gertrude (Davidson) Bruce.

He grew up in Hill County and attended schools in Whitney. From 1964-1965 he worked in construction on Interstate 35. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from April 1, 1966 until he was honorably discharged on July 17, 1969 serving two tours of duty in Viet Nam. He married Barbara Ruth Elmes in Philadelphia, PA.

After his military career he began working in construction in Philadelphia until he was forced to retire in 1989. After retirement he moved to McAlester, Oklahoma where he lived until 2015 when he returned home to his place of birth and completed the circle.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and bow fisherman and was also a member of the American Legion Post #522 and Disabled American Veterans.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his son, George Russell “Rusty” Bruce. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Bruce, brothers, Rudy, Knox, Gery Don, Ronald and Brack Bruce, grand daughter, nieces, nephews and several great-nieces and nephews and other family members.

A memorial service will be held December 16, 2017 in Whitney.
