Mr. Tommie Simmons, age 77, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017. He was born on April 3, 1940 in Ponce De Leon, Florida, to Thomas Jefferson Simmons and Lela Mae Carnley Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a lifelong resident of Ponce De Leon, Florida. He graduated from Ponce De Leon High School in 1958. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He owned and operated his own lawn care business for over 20 years. He was a very talented musician having played in many churches and events throughout the area. He was the lead guitarist for the Faith Travelers Gospel Group.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his father and mother; infant son, Tommy Curtis Simmons; brothers, Clyde Simmons and Cletus Simmons; and sister, Lela Cassidy.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara A. Simmons of Ponce De Leon; son, James Travis Simmons and wife Venita D. Simmons of Westville, Florida; two grandchildren, Barbara Sue Simmons and husband Kevin Lee Bowers of Ponce De Leon, and Stetson Hunter Simmons of Caryville, Florida; one brother, Clethan Simmons and wife Emi of Pensacola, Florida; and two sisters, Clela Braxton and husband Bill and Gladys Braxton and husband Jr. Braxton both of Westville, Florida.

A time of visitation was held from 6:00~8:00 PM, Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel; 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435. Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM, Friday, December 8, 2017 at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Mitchell Carroll officiating. Flowers are being accepted.
