Julia Ann “Judy” Bailey, 71, died unexpectedly at home from an apparent heart attack on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017.

She was born April 16, 1946, in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of Jack L. Bailey and Mary Frances Crawford Bailey. She graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1964.

Judy was a faithful member of Faith Promise Church in Knoxville, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her father, a former World War II Prisoner-of-War, and her mother.

Judy spent the great majority of her career at Y-12 in Oak Ridge, but also worked for Abbott Laboratories in Waukegan, Ill., in the late 1960s and for a DOE sub-contractor in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She retired in 2012 as an Outage Program Manager for B&W Y-12 and has spent her retirement years traveling to several countries in Europe, multiple trips to her timeshares in Florida, spending time at the lake and doting on her family, especially granddaughter Madison “Maddie” Self.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth H. Self Jr., and his wife, Carol Mayes Self, of Clinton, Tenn., and their daughter, Madison Leigh Self, who is a Senior at Tennessee Tech University. She also leaves her brother, Jack L. Bailey Jr., and his wife, Patricia Hensley Bailey, of Oak Ridge, their children, Darrell Bailey, of Charlotte, N.C., Katherine Bailey Price and husband, Todd Price, of Aiken, S.C., and their children, Charlie and Claire Price, also of Aiken, S.C. She also leaves behind numerous cherished friends and her church small group.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge with a memorial service to follow at 7 p.m., with the Pastor Rob Patrick officiating.

According to Judy’s wishes, she is to be cremated and a private graveside service with the family will be held at a later date at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, where she will be buried next to her parents.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Young Life, P. O. Box 1222, Cookeville, TN 38503.
