Miss Vera Boger Lewis, age 76, passed away Sunday Morning, December 10, 2017, at Autumn Care in Salisbury. She was born June 15, 1941, at Turo Infirmary in New Orleans, Louisiana and was the younger daughter of Vera Alice Boger Lewis and Elbert W. Lewis. Educated in the public schools of Rowan County, Vera was a graduate of Boyden High School class of 1959, and she earned a Associates Degree in Business from Kings College in Charlotte. Prior to her retirement, Vera was a Senior Claims Analyst for Travelers Property Casualty Insurance Company. Vera was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell where she served as a member of the Church Council, Immanuel Seniors and president of the Immanuel Lutheran Women. Having been one of the first women to join the Rockwell Civitan Club, Vera was active in many areas and served as Vice-President and President of the group. She was, also, an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. Always, Vera will be very well known and remembered for her kindness and generosity to others especially for sharing her deliciously unique chocolate chip cookies with everyone. She made special efforts to take cookies to those who were home bound. Besides baking, Vera loved flowers, decorating for events, bird watching, fast driving and all cats! Vera is survived by her sister, Sara Jane Lewis of Charlotte, lifelong friend, Paula Lewis of Salisbury and a cousin, Frances Naffziger from New Mexico, and special caregivers, Woody and Helen Weddington. No one really knows the number of people that Vera impacted in her life, but she did so, because she had a deep faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her strong faith enabled her to serve church and community in many capacities. Service and Visitation: The memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 14, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Bruce C. Sheeks, pastor. Interment will follow at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at Immanuel Lutheran Church, prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Memorial: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2070 Emanuel Church Road, Rockwell, NC, 28138. Powles Staton Funeral Home, honored provider of Veterans Funeral Care is assisting the Lewis family. Online condolences may be made at www.powlesfuneralhome.com.
