His early television performances led him to Broadway where he performed in such musicals and theatrical plays as "1776", "Wildcat", "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Camino Real", and "Nine". He also performed in numerous off Broadway plays as well during his career. He also continued in television with such credits as "Decoy", "Armstrong Circle Theatre", "The Big Valley", "Ironside", "Mod Squad", "The Missiles of October", Harry O", "Police Woman", "Charlie's Angels", "Blind Ambition", "The Edge of Night", "Ryan's Hope", "Murder, She Wrote", "Will & Grace", and "Law & Order". He also appeared in numerous films during his career with such credits as "The Last Mile" (1959), "Invitation to a Gunfighter" (1964), "Fort Apache the Bronx" (1981), "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989), "The Exorcist III" (1990), "Signs" (2002), and "Legion" (2016).
