Dr. Don Paul Ferguson, 76, of Jenks, OK, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Saturday, April 8, 2017. Surrounded by his loving family, he passed away at Southern Hills Rehabilitation Center, Tulsa, OK due to complications of surgery. He was born February 20, 1941 in East Alton, IL to Haskell Paul Ferguson and Opal Bernice (Small) Ferguson.

Don graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1959 and was dubbed "Cousy" by his basketball coach. He lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball. While there, he met the love of his life, Bobby (Coley) Ferguson, and they were married August 26, 1961 in Sapulpa, OK.

Don attended Oklahoma State University and during his college years, he won medals in 7 different events as a member of the OSU track team. He graduated with a 2nd Lieutenant's commission in the ROTC and then served in the army for 2 years at Ft. Stewart, GA as Special Services Officer and was promoted to 1st Lieutenant during his service there.

After leaving the army, Don went back to Oklahoma State as a teaching assistant and completed his Master's Degree in Physical Education. He completed his Ed.D degree in Higher Education in 1973. Dr. Don Parham brought Don to Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 1967 for his talents in teaching and his motor skills. He was well qualified for the classroom and athletic field as well. He taught over 20 different courses and had a tremendous influence on many that have gone on to become teachers and coaches. It would never be unusual to peek in the gym and see him walking on his hands across the entire gym floor, or randomly doing a standing back flip, much to the amazement of his students. He was always remembered for his easy smile and quick wit.

Don also served 10 years as the meet director for Special Olympics as this was important to him. In 2002, he retired and and was awarded the title of Professor Emeritus. In 2011, he was proud to be the recipient of the Distinguished Former Faculty award.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Durant Country Club and would often be found with a clever grin and a wad of cash in his pocket won off his buddies from a day on the course. He also enjoyed betting on the horse races and even won a handicapping contest that earned him an all expense paid trip to Vegas to compete in the National Handicapping Championship.

Don's greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He loved watching them participate in their various sporting events and cheered them on along the sidelines.

His beautiful life will always be cherished by his wife, Bobby, of the home and children Jeff Ferguson and wife Theresia of Independence, MO, Tory Ferguson and wife Trina of Tulsa, OK, and Laura Blake and husband Kevin of Bixby, OK, grandchildren, Ava and Cale Ferguson and Tyler and Zach Blake.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Karen Troutt and brother-in-law Rev. Johnny Troutt. There will be a private family graveside service at South Heights Cemetery in Sapulpa, OK.
