Joe proudly served his country in the 3rd Army Division from 1941-1945 in Morocco, North Africa and Italy. He served as a police officer for the City of Chicago and ultimately retired from Blue Cross/Blue Shield after 30 years of employment. Joe was one of the most positive and gracious individuals you could imagine. Every circumstance he found himself in was "the best"; every person he met was greeted with love and respect. A treasured friend to all, from his lifelong friends to his pool playing buddies at Lexington Square, all were treated like family. He was a quiet beacon of his Christian faith for his family and all he met. Though a lifetime White Sox fan he was delighted that the Cubs achieved a championship in his lifetime - even if it took 100 years. He passed away after a brief illness following a wonderful celebration of his 100th birthday. Joe was the beloved husband of the late Estelle; loving father of Joanne , Denise and William Bowen, Martin Bowen and the late John; proud grandfather of Rich , Lizzie, Joe and Mary , Greg , Maggie , Kate, Peter and Mick , Bridget and Patrick and Dan , Kyle and Sarah, Nick, Joe and Reily ; dear brother of the late Mary George, Agnes Rice, Jack and twin brother James Bowen;
