Miss Anne Stevenson Van Cortlandt, the last direct lineal descendant
of Oloff Stevenson Van Cortlandt, founder of the family In
America .and of Stephanus Van Cortlandt, first Lord of the Manor died Wednesday night in the Manor House in Croton, after a long illness.
She was 92 years old.
Miss Van Cortlandt was born in the Manor House, the daughter of
the late Colonel Pierre Van Cortlandt and Mrs. Catherine Beck Van
Cortlandt, and had lived there most of her life. She maintained an active
interest in colonial and family history, and for many years was vice president and a member of the board of directors of The Colonial Dames in the State of New York.
She was also a member of the Society of Lords of the Manor and of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was an honorary member of Pierre Van Cortlandt Chapter.
VD. A. R., named after her great grandfather. The family was founded here by Olof Van Cortlandt. who came from Holland in 1638. The original Manor of Cortlandt was granted by royal charter to Stephanus Van Cortlandt in 1697, but the present
manor house was built in 1681.
The original Van Cortlandt holdings included most of what Is now Westchester
County. Miss Van Cortlandt's brother, Captain James Stevenson Van Cortlandt, died in 1917.
Miss Van Cortlandt leaves two nieces, who were joint owners with her of the manor, Miss Catherine Van Cortlandt Mathews and Mrs. William D. Mason, and a great niece, Jean Rutherford Mason.

Miss Van Cortlandt never married, Her fiancé Ensign Fredrick Danner was drowned in the tragic wreck of the USS Huron in North Carolina. His body was brought to Peekskill and buried in the family plot
