Thelma M. Powers, 95, passed away Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Methodist West Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at McLaren's Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at McLaren's.
Thelma was born in Martensdale, Iowa to Howard and Irene (Bates) Crow. She graduated from Martensdale High School and then became part of the first group of female Marines trained in the U.S.
She loved playing bingo, video poker, and working crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her grandson, Aaron Corrie; sister, Betty Dooley; sister-in-law, Lore Crow; and several nieces and nephews.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick Powers; daughter, Shirley Corrie; and her brother Bill Crow.
Memorials may be directed to any local VFW or American Legion Post of the donor's choice.
