Survived by daus, Nancy Becker (husband, Gary) of Jacksonville and Kirby Drennan (husband, Robert Winkelman) of Virginia; grandsons, Joel Drennan of Stillwater, OK and Dirk Winkelman of Virginia; a brother, Dr. David B. Drennan (wife, Jane) of Quincy; a niece; two nephews; and several cousins. preceded in death by his parents.

1949 graduate of Jacksonville High School, 1953 graduate of Knox College, Galesburg, and a 1957 graduate of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He served an internship and a four year general surgery residency at St. Lukeâ??s Hospital in St. Louis. Having been a member of the Naval Reserves since 1949, he was called to active duty with the US Navy where he served eighteen months as a surgeon aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea. He entered a flight surgeon program at the US Naval Command in Pensacola, FL graduating in June of 1964. He later served aboard the carrier USS Midway, the first to enter the Tonkin Gulf during the Vietnam Conflict. Later stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station in Iwakuni, Japan and the US Naval Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX.

Dr. Drennan returned to Jacksonville in December of 1969 to establish a private practice in general surgery During his almost 40 years of practice, he was instrumental in developing the Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic programs, teaching many classes. He performed the first laparoscopic surgery in Jacksonville during October of 1972. He has served as Chairman of the Passavant Hospital Surgical Staff and Chairman of the Surgical Review Committee. He was a member of the American Medical Society, the Illinois State Medical Society, the Morgan-Scott Medical Society, and the Morgan TB Clinic Advisory Board.

Member Congregational Church/ UCC. He enjoyed flying and held a private pilot license. In his spare time he loved to fish, hunt, and pursue an interest in photography.

Private memorial services will be held. Interment will be at Diamond Grove Cemetery in Jacksonville. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are suggested to the Congregational Church UCC, Heifer International, or The Davenport Conservancy.
