Deacon Daniel Vern Blake, 53, died Monday, June 26, 2017, at 6:45 p.m. Born Nov. 1, 1963, in San Fransisco, Ca., he was a resident of Chackbay.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 30, from 8:30 a.m. until service time at Saint Joseph Co-Cathedral. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. with burial to follow at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery in Chackbay.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Tauzin Blake; sons, Matthew Blake, Joseph "Joey" Blake; daughter, Teresa Blake; mother, Anne Cummings Blake; and brothers, Frederick (Victoria) Blake Jr., Andrew Blake, Stephen (Harini) Blake, Peter (Julie) Blake.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frederick Blake; and sister-in-law, Mia Blake.
Daniel served in the United States Army where he flew Blackhawk helicopters and received an honorable discharge on May 9, 1994. He followed his calling to nursing, received a bachelor's degree from Nicholls State University and his master's from Loyola University. During this time, he was awarded the US Army Spirit of Nursing Award. He was ordained a deacon of the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux on May 23, 2015. Through the years he was employed as a nurse in many settings including home health, several area hospitals and instructor at Nicholls State University. Most recently, he was employed at Notre Dame Hospice where he was able to use his skills both as a nurse and deacon. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and most proud to be an Eagle
Scout of the Boy Scouts of America.
