Gerald was a Navy vet and served his country proudly in WWII. He was one of the participants on the first Honor Flight out of Iowa. Gerald eventually retired as a Captain from the Polk County Sheriff's Department.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Wilma; daughter, Linda (Laird) Caraway; son, Gerald (Kathy) Wallace II; 10 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Ross; sons-in-law, Roy Ross and Kenneth Berry; and brothers, Jack and Billy Wallace.
Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Highland Memory Gardens, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.
