Samuel Grady Lucas, Sr. passed away at his home in Batesville this morning, December 7, 2017.

Funeral services for Grady will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home in Batesville. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:00.

Grady was born November 5, 1954 to Violet Rutherford Lucas and the late Samuel Lucas Sr. in Hattiesburg, MS. Grady was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed construction, woodworking and was quite a craftsman. Grady also was a classic car enthusiast and known by his family to be a great father. He was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church.

The family he leaves behind include his mother, Violet Rutherford Lucas of Batesville, children; Candy Lucas Broome (Billy) of Batesville, Lacey Lucas Shipley (Kyle) of Oxford, Samuel Grady "Bubba" Lucas, Jr., (Chasity) of Batesville, one brother; David Anthony Lucas of Sardis, 11 grandchildren; Chelsea Broome and Jake Broome, of Batesville, Tristin Lucas, and Brooke Lucas of Oxford, Kaylie Ragon, Shayden Lucas and Cameron Koszyk of Batesville, Savannah Harlow Shipley, and Ava Grace Byles of Oxford, Harlan Fullilove and Cheyenne Land of Celina, TX., and his beloved dog Bo-Jack Lucas.

In addition to his father, Grady is preceded in death by his wife; Janie Young Lucas, sister; Evelyn Doriott, 3 brothers; Larry Lucas, Dewayne Lucas, and Daniel Gregory, and one grandchild; Tyler Broome.
