Richard “Dick” Gabriel, age 82, of National City passed away on December 9, 2017. He was born to the late Anthony and Marianna Gabriel in Detroit on January 28, 1935. In his youth he served as an alter boy at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Detroit. Dick retired from DTE Energy after 41 years of employment. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale, the Knights of Columbus, the Tawas Moose Lodge #2400 holding a fellowship degree, the Hale Eagles Club #4217, and was a past officer of the Sand Lake Men’s Association. Dick enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching the Detroit Tigers and Lions, and spending time with his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Janis Gabriel; his children, Kathleen (James) Neadow of Brownstown, Jeffery (Shelley) Spieth of National City, and James (Sharon) Spieth of Livonia; his grandchildren, Amanda Neadow, and Abigail Spieth; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Jane Jannuzzi.

A visitation will be held on Thursday December 14, 2017 from 4-6 PM with a rosary service at 6 PM at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale. The funeral mass will be held on Friday December 15, 2017 at 11 AM also at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ortega officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the food bank at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
