Danny D. Daniel, 83, a life-time resident of Waco, passed away Friday, September 3, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Danny was born February 26, 1927, in Waco to Robert and Doris (Hutson) Daniel. He was raised on the family homestead on Hillcrest Drive which is now Deerwood Subdivision. He was a graduate of Waco High School. Danny worked at the Waco V.A. Hospital and retired after 30 years of service. He owned and operated Danny Daniel Ornamental Iron Works for over 50 years and was well-known in the Waco area by local contractors and clients as an honest, hard-working individual and was considered a legend in ornamental iron. At Danny's request, Danny Daniel Ornamental Iron Works will continue to operate as a family business run by his wife Yvonne and their son Danny Parker Daniel, along with Danny’s loyal crew.

Danny was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the great outdoors. He was an expert marksman and excellent hunter of waterfowl, deer and gamebirds. He hunted and fished from Mexico to Maine. He was a supporter of Ducks Unlimited and the Texas Game Warden Association. He received many accolades from Earl Golding, former outdoors editor for the Waco Tribune-Herald, who said Danny qualified for the title “The Duck Hunter” in our area and that there was no better duck hunter or more effective duck caller.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Robert, Mark, Burel, Jerry, and Allen.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Yvonne Courtade Daniel of Waco; sons, Randy Ray Daniel and wife Joy, and Danny Parker Daniel, both of Rock Creek; daughters, Cindy Gail Standlee and husband Brad of Joshua, and Dr. Lisa Daniel of Austin; grandchildren, Meaghen Standlee of Joshua, and Lindsey Daniel of Waco, step-grandchildren, Jessica Candy, Jared Daniel, and Jenny Wood. He is also survived by his favorite nephews and hunting buddies, Ron, Don, and Robert Daniel, and grandnephew, Joseph Daniel. Special friends, colleagues and crew that Danny held dear to him include Crisp Pirelo, Jeff Ward, Chuck Simmons, Don Easterwood, Vernon Horne, Brandon Deving, Joe Eastland, Duron Lang, Tyrone Anderson, Duke Neal, and Mitzi Burns.

The Daniel family offers special thanks to Pioneer Steel, Callan Company, Metals-to-Go, Alamo Steel, Davis Iron Works, and Triple X Steel for their long-time friendship and the patronage of area contractors and clients over the years.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for care provided by Vista Care Hospice including, Jackie Allen, William Low, Rhonda Machac, Cecelia Gervais, Sally Neeley, Maria Friaz, Shercil Cross, Dr. Karl Trippe and Chaplain Jim Millsaps.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Waco Humane Society.
