Dr. Dewey Woodrow Hood, age 88 of Decherd, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Hood was born on September 6, 1929 in Yucca, Alabama to the late James Cleveland and Myrtle Varner Hood. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Army Reserve. Dr. Hood served the citizens of Franklin County at Decherd Medical Clinic for over 50 years, starting on the corner of Main Street and Spring Street and finishing his practice at the corner of 4th and Main Street. During the Korean Conflict, he was drafted back into active duty, but the citizens of Decherd petitioned for him to stay; a petition that was granted! Dr. Hood was a member of the Decherd Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was an avid University of Tennessee Volunteers Fan. In addition to his parents, Dr. Hood is preceded in death by his siblings, Ralph Hood, Robert Hood, Joe Hood, Doyle Hood, and Thelma Everett; and daughter-in-law, Carol Hood. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Carolyn Hood of Decherd; children, Michael (Vicky) Hood of Newport, TN, David (Beverly) Hood of Huntsville, AL, Elyssa (Paul) Clayton of Fayetteville, and Chris Hood of Decherd; grandchildren, Matthew, Laura, Valerie, Ross, Gabrielle, Grace, James, and Joey; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Ayers of Winchester, Dorothy Kessler of Tullahoma, and Mildred Bain of Old Salem Community; and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel.
