He was educated in the Greenwood, MS School System. Shortly afterwards, he relocated to Oak Ridge, TN and met the love of his life, the late Gloria Jean Hill. As an over-the-road truck driver, together they traveled throughout the United States.
Henry is a former employee of Martin Marietta and retired from the Y-12 Plant after 25+ years of dedicated service. Not being one to sit around after his retirement, he became an employee of Dodson Moving and Storage in Oak Ridge. He treasured the time he spent with his co-workers.
Henry was a faithful member of New York Avenue Church of Christ and he enjoyed discussing the Bible. He also love his church family.
His greatest pleasure in life was being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren. Along with his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by grandson, DeMarcus Page; brothers, John, Douglas, Freddie, Jessie, Otis, Jaspier “Joe”, Bruno, Charlie, and John “Bo” and sister, Minnie Pearl McGowan.
He is survived by sons, Henry B. Gilmore Jr and Erric Gilmore of Oak Ridge; daughters, Jackie Turner and Cornelia Oppenhein of Knoxville and Emma Evans of Detroit, MI; brothers, Johnnie B. Pilcher of Chicago, IL and Don Pilcher of Cleveland, MS, Louiser Gilmore, Tommy Gilmore, and James Gilmore; sisters, Anna Lee Gilmore and Inez Gilmore, both of Greenwood, MS; brothers-in-law, Grant (Alfreda) Hill and Ernest (Nancy) Hill; sisters-in-law, Lou Ella Houston, Helen (James) Hill, and Mary (Vernon) Swann; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grand children; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 11am – 1pm at New York Avenue Church of Christ. The funeral will begin at 1pm with Dennis Winebarger officiating. Interment will follow at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
The family asks that memorials be name in his name to the New York Avenue Church, 219 New York Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830 or to the American Cancer Society.
