Robert Lee Courtney, 90, of Kansas City entered his heavenly home on December 7, 2017. A man of strong faith, wisdom, love, gentle spirit, compassion and empathy surpassing understanding. These gifts left much to embrace and cherish.

He was born December 8, 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas, son of James and Jewell (Weatherford) Courtney, whom preceded him in death.

Robert served in the Navy during WWII aboard the USS Randolph. He graduated from Central Bible College and attended Harding University. He was an avid reader, life-long learner and was passionate to develop his ministry skills as he continued in life attending counseling classes and workshops. Every day of his life he served God and he strived to be a light to all he encountered.

R.L., as he was often referred to, was of small stature but from the pulpit his voice was that of a strong giant, ministering to congregations big and small across America as an Assemblies of God Pastor for 50+ years.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife of 50 glorious years, Nelle (Bradsher) Courtney; one sister Donna Johns; two brothers James and Glen Courtney; and niece Paula Higgs.

R.L. is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Una Pearl Farley of MO; his three daughters and sons-in-law Judy Comstock (Carl) of KS, Rheta Landon (Dwight) of KS, Mellanie Renfro (Randy) of MO, his son Robert Courtney of TX; his three step children Vicky Haley (Jim) of OK, Jim Duncan (Janie) of TX and Kevin Keagle (Katie) of IL; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.
