Duane Eggleston

August 31, 1931 – December 6, 2017

J. Duane Eggleston, Edmond OK, passed to his heavenly reward Wed., Dec. 6, 2017 born to Ted & Pearl Eggleston, Aug. 31, 1931 in Waynoka, Oklahoma.

Dad had the happiest of childhoods being raised with three brothers on the family farm acquired in the land run, participating in FFA, football, hard work, always a devoted son, and forming a love for the Lord and His Church, being baptized on August 13, 1944.

The greatest day of his life was Aug 29, 1952, when Mary Ann Sweet became his wife after being college sweethearts, Having 58 years together, they served the Church, made a beautiful life, and raised a family of four children.

Dad began his professional life as a coach and teacher at Lake Valley, OK, while preaching “on the side.” His passion for preaching turned into 60 years of ministry, giving his final sermon on Nov. 5, 2017. Duane also worked for Dillons Stores in Hutchinson, KS, returned to OC in 1986 as a Vice President and ambassador recruiting many kids to the value of a Christian education.

In addition, Duane was an author, carpenter, bread-maker, minister, elder, Bible class teacher, minister to sick, avid letter writer, horseman, “sojourner,” shepherd, friend, and patriarch.

But most of all, throughout his life, Dad was a devoted soldier for the Kingdom, preacher of the Gospel, student of the Word, and disciple of the Lord.

Dad was blessed with 11 grandchildren and their spouses, six great-grandchildren who survive him, along with their four children, Jim, Terri, Kerri and Scott and their spouses. One brother, Evan Eggleston, and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends also survive dad. He was preceded in death by Mary Ann in 2010, his parents, one son-in-law, and one granddaughter.

He was the best of men.

The family will greet friends at Matthews Funeral Home from 7-9p.m. on Sunday December 10th with services scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday December 11th at Memorial Road Church of Christ.
