Married Helen J. Nelson 19 Sept 1943 in Warren County, IL.MONMOUTH - M. Deane Slater, 86, Monmouth, passed away at 10:22 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Monmouth Nursing Home.
Deane was born June 10, 1924, in Monmouth, the son of Michael B. and Blanche Long Slater. He was raised south of Monmouth and attended the South Henderson Grade School. He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1942. Deane married Helen J. Nelson on Sept. 19, 1943, at Fairview Center E.U.B. Church where he has been a lifetime member. He has been a grain and livestock farmer locally all his life and for several years was a partner in Abingdon Farm Equipment with Robert Nuckles.
Deane is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Bob (Pam) Slater of Bridgeville, Del., Bill (Karen Remick) Slater of Oquawka, Bonnie (Bob) Teske of Dunlap, Becky (Jim) Moore of Monmouth, and Betty (John) Frost of Aledo; 12 grandchildren, Cynthia (Kevin) Glisan, Jim (Tammy) Slater, Patty (Mike) Procino, Brandon (Alison) Slater, Julie (Ronnie) Seitz, Bill (Jennifer) Slater, Nici (Mike) Jones, Kelli Winbigler (Kyle Kinzer), Megan Moore (Matt Heinbaugh), John (Chris) Frost, Dustin (Kristi) Frost and Britni (Justin) Ewing; great-grandchildren, Emily, Erin, Joey, Jackie, Chelsey, Jacob, Jenna, Haley, Hunter, Austin, Abby, Alex, Marke, Payton, Bella, Beau, Lyla, Mallory, Slater, Codie, Simon, Seth, and Oen; a special aunt, Frances Long; and many cousins.
Cremation will be accorded. A gathering of his family and friends will be at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. with his family present to receive friends. A private family burial of ashes will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established by his family.
