He was a member of St. Joseph United Methodist Church, Fort Wayne. He proudly served his country in the Air Force; and was a member of American Legion Post 47. He retired from Navistar in 1991 after 31 years of service, and then he worked at the Fort Wayne Vehicle Auction for over 15 years.
He is survived by his children, Ellen M. (Tom) Bowser and William A. Bernard; granddaughters, Alicia (Jake) McKim, Lauren (Derek) Graber and Shauna Bowser; step-grandson, Adam Bowser; and great-grandson, Elias McKim.
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bonita M. Bernard; and brother, Donald Bruce Bernard.
Funeral service is noon Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling from 10 a.m. until time of service. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
