Born June 29, 1930 in Huntingdon, PA, he was the son of the late Dale Gilbert and Alice Dora Sharp Bell.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he had served as Treasurer, Superintendent and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a 1947 graduate of the Girard College for Boys in Philadelphia, PA and retired in 1994 as a payroll manager with U.S. Silica. Mr. Bell served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 in Berkeley Springs. He was active with Morgan County Little League for many years and volunteered with MCIEC. In addition to his many duties at church, he also enjoyed golfing.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Arlene Harden Bell, at home, his children, Ann Harden Bell of Berkeley Springs and Keith Eugene Bell and his wife Ruth of Smithsburg, MD, two step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by thee sisters, Vivian “Jane” Bodie, Ann Davis and Nan Grassmyer and one step granddaughter.
Funeral services will conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at First United Methodist Church, 49 S. Green Street, Berkeley Springs, WV with the Rev. Doug Hoffman officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Greenway Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Saturday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
