Sarah was born in Elmira on May 17, 1921, to Thomas and Viola (Elcha) Reid. She married Earl Briggs in 1940 and was preceded in death by him in 1975. She married Lascelles White in 1975 and was preceded in death by him in 1991.
She was well known in Corning as a seamstress. She enjoyed oil painting, crocheting, and photography. Sarah loved to travel and spend time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Sally (Albert) Beach of Lawrenceville, PA; a sister, Jennie Dunmyer of Elmira; a brother, Thomas (Marjorie) Reid of Elmira; a grandson, Sr. Airman Thomas Riley of Sagamore, MA; a granddaughter, Litonya Briggs of Manassas, VA; a sister-in-law, Beatrice Reid of Elmira; her great-granddaughter, Taigen Riley of Manassas, VA; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning, where funeral services will follow calling hours at 8:00 p.m. with Reverend Kathleen Turnbole officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, NY.
