After returning from service he was employed with Roeck's bakery for 19 years. In December of 1977 he purchased Jim's Downtown Tap. Jim ran the business until his retirement in 1997. Jim was an active member of the Kiel community, serving as aldermann for the City of Kiel. In his younger years he was involved with the Kiel Masonic Lodge serving two terms as Past Master. Jim was a firefighter for 26 years and served as an EMT with the ambulance service for 18 years. He was a proud supporter of the NRA and belonged to Kiel Fish and Game, The Hermitage Club and School Hill Sportsman's Club. Jim loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had the privilege of taking nine out of state big game hunting trips. He was an avid trap shooter and was recognized several times as top gun. In his free time he enjoyed cooking, baking & gardening, watching the Packers & Badgers and sharing his stories of his own high school football glory. Jim was a lifetime member of St. Peter UCC, Kiel.
He is survived by his four children, son; Jesse (Sharon) Roeck of Clinton OH, and their children; Andy & Erin Roeck, Nick (Sarah) Sopko and Jillian Sopko, daughter; Sheri (Allen) Hartman of Osman (Newton) WI and their children; Dr. Jamie (Russ) Feeney & Greg Hartman, daughter; Traci (Todd) Walsdorf of New Holstein, WI and their children; Andrea & Cole Walsdorf, son; Randy Roeck of LaCrosse WI and his daughters; Amberly & Kaely Roeck. Jim is further survived by a great granddaughter; Olivia Haydo, sister-in-law; Judith Roeck and her family along with other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Chris Roeck and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00pm on Saturday January 13, 2018 at Meiselwitz-Vollstedt Funeral Home (815 6th St. Kiel) Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral on Saturday from 2:00pm until the time of services. According to Jim's wishes cremation has taken place.
