The funeral service for Thomas Virgil Chandler, age 87 of Talladega, will be held on Friday, December 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. James Long officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Chandler passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Russell Medical Center. He was a native and life-long resident of Clay County, a graduate of Bibb Graves High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Mr. Chandler was the owner of Coosa Valley Tire Company and had also worked in the textile industry. He loved gardening and sitting on his porch entertaining friends and family. Mr. Chandler was a member of Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church.
He is survived by two daughters: Kim Warren (Royce) of Childersburg and Tamala K. Machen of Sylacauga; five grandchildren: Doug Warren, Beverly Bridges (Jeff), Conner Hurst, Abby Hurst and Cade Hurst and one great-grandson, Luke Elliot Bridges.
Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his parents: George W. Chandler and Mamie Matthews Chandler; his wife, Althea Baggett Chandler; two sons: Keith and Kevin Hurst and one brother, Ned Chandler.
Pallbearers will be Paul Smith, Eddie Rozelle, Gene Rozelle, Gary Chandler, Danny Morris, Doug Warren, Jeff Bridges and Steve Patterson.
Robbie Epperson, Dave Good, Henry Noxtine, Charles Yates and the men of Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until service time at 11:00 A.M. at Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church.
